Guidelines to Writing a Response Essay
Guidelines to Writing a Response EssayIf you have been asked to write a response essay, then there are certain guidelines to writing a response essay. These guidelines are an attempt to provide clarity to writing a response essay by using examples. The first guideline to writing a response essay is that the paper should appear objective and neutral in nature. Make sure that you are stating facts not opinions. Your personal viewpoints should be kept out of the paper.Second, avoid using personal experiences or opinions in the paper. Your experiences must be fact based. Personal opinions should be kept to the subject of the paper rather than the letter, which can be a source of constant conflict for the writer.Follow up your opinion by stating the opposing view and arguing against it. You need to give the reader an outline to follow through the argument. The format should be either a thesis statement or conclusion statement and both of these statements should include the evidence that su pports each.Use facts, not personal attacks to support your points. This is an important distinction to make because personal attacks are only going to serve to undermine your argument. When you use personal attacks, the reader becomes easily swayed by it and they will not follow through with your argument. The topic and length are extremely important. Make sure that the paper focuses on the theme of the essay. Each topic should be well defined. Then, in the paper, make sure to follow up each topic with supporting evidence. In your conclusion, make sure to provide a summary of your argument and a synopsis of your arguments. You should also provide evidence for all your claims. Finally, you should be very organized and make sure that your paper flows well.Hopefully these guidelines to writing a response essay will make it easier for you to write a well-written paper. Remember, if you use these guidelines you will become more confident and will be able to write a better response essay.
